I am normally a 15% tipper. Bigger, if the service is really good. Not having to ask for a drink refill is a big helper for the waitstaff to get a good tip.

I also just ate at Olive Garden this week and didn't leave a tip. Had to ask for refills. Had to wait 10 minutes for salad dressing, so had the salad ate before the dressing showed up. Had to wait 15 minutes for the first serving of breadsticks and salad. Had to get up and find the waitress to get our check (she was in the hall with a styrofoam cup, drinking and talking). I believe she got a $1 tip from 2 different people in our foursome but she didn't get anything from Mike and I. I believe waitstaff earns what they deserve. Oh, this was at 4:30 and the restaurant was very empty!

I was a waiter at two different restaurants and have always said it was my favorite job (as crazy as that sounds) but I got good tips because I DESERVED good tips. I don't expect anyone to give me what I don't deserve, so I don't give others what they don't deserve.

Ok service gets ~15%. Good service gets 20%. Excellent service gets more. I've given a ~50% tip before because the service was excellent.

I've also given nothing for crap service, so it depends.

think about it like this, a waitress can choose to spend all of her time really taking care of one table and let the other ones suffer if she knows that one table will tip well - or she could divy up her time btw the others based on how much each table looks like they'll tip, it's simple economics.

I tip at least 15%. If the service is outstanding, the waiter can count on above 20%.

If my waiter/waitress doesn't do their job - basically they are horrible - they will get a small tip. I do this to let them know I thought about it and decided that they didn't do a good job. Otherwise, they might think I just forgot or never tip. If they are good, I normally don't go through any calculations, but I just give generously. Why do they act like they have something else to do sometimes?

I & Mother like to eat at buffets. The waitperson only brings our ice tea, we do the rest. So my tips tend to be small.

Buffets are a different ball game but most places still require drinks to be refilled by the waiter/waitress so there tip will depend on the status of my diet coke.

i waited tables and i always tip well regardless of service, but i will reward great service with a great bounty......a lot of times we as the customers can be bad, its easy to forget your not the only one in the restraunt, so if your drink gets low, shave your poon and deal with it or just be straight up with your waiter. i believe its better to tell the waiter they suck and still give them a good tip. we all have bad days.

unless your at some snotty resturaunt where the food is overpriced, then the waiter better be on her/his A game, because thats whats expected at those types of places.

I don't know about that drink thing. One of my biggest determining factors for leaving a good tip is that I don't have to sit there without a drink. I tip 15% even with bad service but if my diet coke remains full the tip is significantly greater. For all of you waiters out there, keep your customers drinks full!

I usually test them because I'm an #*$?!$@ - like asking for "oh can you bring out some ____ on the side too?".

If they get that then I'm usually more lenient on other stuff. Usually I get about about 10% success rate on that test specifically.

well this place will let your drink run out and take like 10 mins to fill it up even though they can see your glass is empty they will go all around our table filling everyones elses glasses and then come ask if we would like more drink, theres been times we had to get up and go get it ourselves.

I always tip but if the service is really good I tip more. That is a hard way to earn a living and we have some really great waitresses and waiters in this area.

I believe you should always tip your waiter or waitress based on how well they take care of you. A lot of times people will blame them if the food isn't great and that's not there fault. One thing I hate is when they let my drink get completely empty.

You know it really depends on how well you get waited on,if they keep your cup full when you run out and keep the dishes off the table yeah they get a good tip.Now theres a place in Athens where the staff is well lets just say they never ger a great tip..the food if great but the wait staff lacks flavor if you know what I mean.
