Completely Hypothetical. If forced to choose one vice would you be a smoker or alcoholic?

if u dont smoke, dont start it. i've smoked since i was a teen. quite twice for a couple weeks, then start back. i was raised on a small farm. we had a .6 tents of an acre tobacco base, when sold in the winter, got use bye for the year, might have enough money left over to buy a pair of shoes. my clothes were hand me down's. if smoking is harmful, then its to the one that smokes. alcohol is harmful to the one that uses it.if 10 drinks makes you drunk, and you drink one, then you are one tenth drunk. thank you

I've seen what being an alcoholic can do to family and friends, no way would i do that to my family. I'll drink socially...but I won't allow it to be on a regular basis. I am, however, a smoker.

Ripi, you've obviously never had a serious asthma attack. I looked up the following stats on the internet. Smoking related deaths per year, 440,000. Alcohol related deaths per year, 75,000. (This includes accidents and disease.) I knew smoking kills more than alcohol but even I was a little surprised by the actual numbers.... Since my drinking is limited to an occasional glass of port wine (in a cute little chocolate cup) and my smoking is secondhand only, I'm not a fan of either really.

Ever hear of MAD MOTHERS AGAINST SMOKERS?
No...it AGAINST DRUNK DRIVERS.
Smokers don't cause immediate death or damage like drunk drivers.
There are too many people in jail on DWI.
I'd rather be a smoker.

It's not good to be either one really. Either way if you abuse it, you are only hurting yourself.

I don't really drink or smoke but I find smokers more offensive because I'm allergic to smoke and generally speaking they don't seem to understand that their second hand smoke makes it very difficult for me to breathe. A friend of my husband once told me that his rights were being infringed on with the new no smoking law and that if I didn't like smoke I could just stay home and not eat out. I must say that considerate smokers are wonderful and I'm very appreciative.

considering they both kill you just as fast, at least smoking won't ruin your life, job, and marraige

True but there are some people that drink on a daily basis that can still function like normal people.

I guess if you were an alcoholic you would feel better than if you were a smoker. I am neither one so I really can't say. I can't stand cigaretts so I couldn't be a smoker. Either way they are both bad for you and your body. People drink to feel good and if you did it daily to where you didn't get that great feeling then what is the point in it?
