Both situations are undoubtedly annoying but which one is worse? Obnoxious kids or an Obese passenger sitting directly next to you on a cramped flight.
I can handle the kids better. I was on a flight once with a very obese couple. They asked me if I would give up my aisle seat so they could have that and the window seat which left me sitting in the middle like a piece of lunch meat. They didn't smell very good and I was so squashed that I couldn't even read the book I brought. They were really nice but it was the longest flight I've ever been on. I always help parents with unruly kids by making friends with the kids and distracting them but there is nothing you can do about crowding.
Wow! It is one thing to be nice, but what you did was too much. I don't understand why someone would even ask you that. They knew what their physical limitations were and used you to help overcome them (sort of). I would have had to say no to that one.
Heres an Idea maybe they should make an airline just for Obese passenger! with wider seats so that the smaller world can travel in peace but I know which airline I would fly
Jeff, I've met you and you're far from what I would consider obese. You're not the size passenger that would irritate me. There are people as wide as they are tall that literally occupy all of one seat and portions of the two other seats.
In regards to an airline that caters to obese passengers it could be argued that most airlines already accommodate them; First Class seating. The reason airlines have narrow seats is a matter of profit per square foot. If the airline increased the size of the seats they would have to increase the price of tickets to make up for the profit per square foot being compromised. Therefore that's one of the reasons first class cost so much, that and the higher level of customer service.
Since we are going down a non-PC road, I will give my 2 pennies. Kids can be annoying at times, but that doesn't mean they get up in my personal space. But if someone is overweight, my window seat becomes be being pressed up against the window and my aisle seat becomes the drink cart bumping into me! Two different things totally and I think there are some things that can immediately be done about the kids.
Well lets see hmmm oh yeah its the kids, coming from an over weight family I can deal with that Kids on the other hand if you cant control them you dont need them bad thing is this topic kinda upsets me.
I guess it would depend how obnoxious the kids are or how loud they're screaming and crying. We seem to be a magnet for misbehaving kids when we're at a restaurant, at a movie, etc.
I may sound heartless but I can easily put on headphones and shut my eyes to block out annoying kids but it's kind of hard to block out an intertube or spare tire rubbing against my arm.
