Normal DVD are more than enough resolution, especially when upscaling via hdmi. There was a huge difference in quality from vhs to dvd , however the jump from dvd to blu-ray is not really major at all.

Once blu-ray players come down to $150 or so I'll consider starting the painful and expensive process of upgrading my movie collection.
