Mr. Bush set the record for the size of the US deficit and just a few months after taking office Obama is planning on quadrupling it. For a president who preaches so much about sustainability he's doing the exact opposite.

Under normal pretense I'd agree with your statement but the reality is that if Obama gets away with all of his policy changes, America, the beautiful symbol of Freedom will no longer be recognizable.

Social Security and Medicare have accelerated at the rate of their depletion due to the amount of unemployed workers and in just seven years will be bankrupt (Sooner if unemployment continues to grow and it will). With that in mind it makes total sense to propose government ran health care. (health care is expected to represent 16% of our total GDP this year)

This isn't directed solely to you, it's directed to everyone who hasn't paid enough attention to the horrendous changes this administration has implemented and plans to implement; be very worried. The US dollar will soon meets its demise which is being done intentionally by our wonderful leadership.

I don't see anyway out of this mess our country is in. With unemployment rising by the day my fear is that soon there will more people needing govt help than there are people paying taxes. What will happen then since our govt is pretty much beyond bankrupt? Does anybody really know? We are on uncharted ground...

I'm with Outside MyBrain and Milky - I'm optimistic. Also, amen to Marv - America was definitely founded on Christian principles, but we (America) haven't been acting like it lately.

The absolute greed of our government, and the officals associated with insurance and banking industries are thinking only of making money for themselves, with no checks and balances to keep them honest. The people who get hurt are us, the so-called little people. We're being forced to bail out the very people who put themselves into this dilemma. It's a sad situation and one that won't correct itself without major changes being made and everyone from the CEO to the janitor being held responsible for his/her own decisions.

I am very concerned about our future. I am seeing things that I never thought would happen in my lifetime. I grew up hearing about the depression from my grandparents and what's happening now is very reminiscent of stories I heard from them. We have our house on the market and have seen the value fall below our appraisal just one year ago. That is not a good sign.

I'm a little concerned.congress don't seem to know what to do,except take their pay raise, and line their own pockets and desires. the ceo's and boss's ripe us off.(the LOVE of MONEY is the root of all evil) the LIBERALS want to kick GOD out of everything. do you suppose GOD is withholding his BLESSINGS from this nation. (Psa 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance). (Pro 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people). America was founded upon CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES.

I seem to be bucking the trend here, but I am optimistic about the future. My wife and I are launching a new business in January 2009 that will give individuals the opportunity to "earn a referral income" helping people reduce their carbon footprints.

The products we are marketing reduce people's energy bills, which allows them to pay their monthly installments with money they have saved and still put some money back in their pockets. Our Motto is "Get Green - Going Green".

In this economy, when people are cutting back, we offer a two-way solution... energy savings, and a referral income, which in many cases will lead to a full time career with Home Shield International.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make that sound like a commercial, I just thought I should explain myself since I'm the only one, so far, in favor of things working out. If you know someone who has lost their job, or might be looking to suplement their income to better secure their future, have them go to our website (under construction) and contact us.

Of course we're all worried. So many people are getting laid off, getting less and less business perks, being treated like crap, having complete uncertainty of the future is nerve-racking. How are we NOT supposed to be worried?

Everybody I know is saving more, spending less and planning more an uncertain future. It sucks - especially this time of year when we should all be with our friends and family and having holiday cheer...

It certainly seems like we're all in the same boat. When it comes to employment we as the workforce have to be willing to be put up with more BS on the job, because we can no longer confidently say that we can easily move to another company.

I'm really curious to see if anyone is staying optimistic through this.

I'll be honest I wasn't too scared until I heard many rumors about my company. I am worried. I think people need to be smarter with their money.
