When you get a chance TNinfidel please take a look at rivalry comments. I have made several tweaks to the way they appear. (Make sure you're logged in) Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I think that's the conundrum. In a simple blog allowing three for for levels of nesting is great but it becomes troublesome to do that in an environment where there are three angles of discussion or thousands of comments per second as there is on Facebook.

Nonetheless I'm sure there's some things we can tweak to make it easier to follow. Would it be better if the comments were "Left Side" "Neutral Side" "Right Side". If you look not only are the color coded they also are align appropriately to the side the comments correspond to.

I'll look at some jqeury or javascript to collapse comments and eventually when comments reach a point of unreadable I'll look at a show more option as Facebook utilizes.

Another thing: Thinking about the likes of Facebook and Digg. Their comments are shown listed newest to oldest I believe. Would that be a better option in your opinion to make it easier to follow as the newest content is shown first? I'll actually start a rivalry on that tomorrow.

You'll have to show me where this is done on facebook because from the best of my knowledge none of their comments go further than one nesting. I would eventually like to allow users to bury comments(hide them when they're voted down or hide them entirely if the number of negative votes grows to a certain number. Digg does this very well.)

I will definitely look into this further and do pass on any further thoughts on it.

Threading comments is a tricky item as when you're dealing with three sides of discussion potentially on every rivalry it will get extremely clustered if I allow build a feature that threads them out further. What I might be able to do is allow you to reply to any comment but they will stay nested as is with a parent comment. However, possibly the specific replies could have a support short exceprt of the comment being replied to and lead with a @johndoe. However, that too might get too clustered.

I'll tinker with it after I shore up the registrations. The initial email issue must have been due to our site not having an SSL certificate at the time.

Tell me: At one point you had mentioned that you never received email notifications when your comments were responded to or when comments were added to rivalries you started or subscribed to. Is this still the case? If so, that is the main problem with requiring email verification is the potential for the email not actually arriving at it's destination.

On initial launch we had a email verification system active but it had some bugs and prevented some people from signing up which we didn't want to do. I will be looking in to this portion of the problem in the next week but have addressed excess comment ratings even when using multiple accounts.

To delete an account: Go to edit profile, username/password, and then click on the delete account link. ;) We didn't want to make it easy as we don't want to lose real users.

@TNinfidel, While the fake Rick account was a bit much I don't mind the flaws in the site being pointed out. That is how they get fixed after all.

I GREATLY appreciate what both you and Rick bring to the site and of course love the traffic. However, it's obvious that I can't let the database to become endlessly corrupted with fake accounts with you two taking each other on.

With that being said please don't stop interacting because of this new system. If you're interacting without the intention of manipulating comment votes you will see no impact in the interaction.

Thank you both for your constant involvement on the site!

Thanks for pointing out the rnrn problem. You possibly saved me from hours of correcting the database for the code problem. Thanks again and please let me know anytime you see something out of whack.

Thank you for letting me know. I will be taking care of this when I get home tonight. Shoutbox comments will be disabled unless you're mutual friends. In the mean time please let me know if you're spammed in any other way.

Hey Rob,
I'm working on the timeout issue right now and pending a few more tests I believe I've fixed the issue. Let me know if you have any more issues being logged out.
