I'm going to have to take up some kind of mind numbing crutch if our government keeps screwing up our country the way they are now. My prozac m&m's just aren't cutting it anymore.
I think there are valid points on each side of this rivalry, but for me, I tend to think legalizing it would be right. An individuals character is ultimately what will drive them to either smoke some on occasion and enjoy it, or become the raging addict. We see the same situation in our society daily just with different triggers. A nice drink after work to relax -or- a desolate drunk that can't function without a bottle. A person taking pain pills when their injury or condition is just too much -or- an addict swallowing pills like tic tacs so they can feel numb. Addictions are in all flavors, it's the individual who succeeds or fails with them.
The four people I know who have wasted their lives are the only four people I know who smoke pot so I guess I'll have to take your word for it. I don't smoke, drink, chew tobacco, or do drugs but I do love me chocolate...
I know a LOT of people that smoke, and/or have smoked for a number of years that lie full normal lives. I know a lot of people that blow hourssssssssss a day with video games, or drink a beer every day after work...if it were done in their own home responsibly, what is the difference? Everybody is addicted to something, and if you let it, it can run your life...if you are the typical person...you can keep it in check.
I know four people who smoke pot every day. They are all in their 30's, they all live with their mom's, and are all consistently unemployed. Coincidence? I don't know if it's because unmotivated people tend to smoke pot or if pot makes people unmotivated. Either way I don't see it as a good thing.
if it was legal you would still have employers who would do drug screenings, so if you smoked pot you would still be at a disadtvantage, plus drug companies that sold pot would try hard to keep you addicted...the same way they do now with pills, alcohol, and cigarettes. you don't need drugs to be dope anyway.
I'm all for legalizing it, but I don't think it will ever happen. The person responsible for legalizing it will have to go into witness protection because someone will try to kill them. There would be so many drug dealers who would lose money that it would make them want to keep it from happening.
The law is for people over the age of 21 like alcohol is now. I doubt it will get passed through the Senate but the fact California keeps pressing the issue, eventually it will get through.
I figured that was the case as far as age restrictions but I couldn't help but make a munchies joke about pot heads. I actually had a horrible experience with marijuana in jr high which nearly took my life so I have a problem with it on a personal level.
Oops, forgot to make my point about the kids...lol It is up to parents to keep it out of a child's reach, legal or not, same with alcohol and cigarettes.
All very true, but, there are also a lot of benefits to it. Such as pain relief, not everybody can get a RX for it, and need it and buy it illegally...which is taking a huge risk! You never know what that stuff could be laced with. If you were able to buy it like alcohol, you would know exactly what's in it! As far as the kids getting a hold of it, fact being kids are smoking it everyday...if it were legal it would be a little easier to keep it away from them. Also, kids drink...wrong as it is...a lot do...and fewer accidents and such happen with weed than alcohol. I have seen the effects of both drinking and smoking weed...though I like a social drink now and again...I would much rather people smoke weed than drink.
More people are going to be influenced if it were legal. I don't think this would be a good idea. There are too many people out there right now messed up on drugs.
That is very true and there certainly is a reason why they call it the "gateway" drug. Besides, think of all of the poor parents out there that would have to constantly restock their refrigerators due to their kids getting the munchies.
I think it would be good for everybody involved. They should have the same laws they do with alcohol, but it should be legal. Fact being, people are going to smoke it anyhow, why not make it legal and then the government would benefit from the sales too.
