Nixon caused a lot of problems, but Bush started two unwarranted and costly wars, destroyed what was left of the American "good name", and put us on a path to complete financial meltdown. At the same time, he sat back and let a major US city be destroyed without making a decent effort to help those affected (New Orleans - Katrina).
Nixon was shady and did a lot of backdoor things to hurt the nation as a whole, but Bush was unprecedented in that. Bush as one of the greatest presidents? Right. Can you give or sell me whatever it is that you're smoking?
I was around during tricky %#@@%#$ fiasco and I can tell you he was the clear winner. I certainly don't agree with everything Bush has done but no president in history has had to face the kind of problems he has. He has also had to battle Hollywood and the media who have been doing everything they can to destroy him since day one. Regardless, he will go down in history as one of the greatest presidents of all time. That will certainly be a bitter pill for some people to swallow but history will eventually bring out the truth. It always does. Can someone tell me why liberals spend so much time on personal attacks instead of digging up facts?
I'm a little confused on what depression you're referring to. Our nation hasn't faced a depression since the "great" depression. Yes, he has faced a lot but to say that he will go down as one of the best presidents is a bit reckless, just look at his approval rating. You mention the remaking of foreign policy, I'm not sure if that's a compliment. Free trade has helped a lot of nations, but not ours. It is to blame for thousands of jobs lost for Americans. In order for money to made in one place it has to be lost in another, America is losing while other nations are gaining.
IMO it was Bush\'s second term that killed him. If he didn\'t get re-elected he would have been remembered as the president who guided our nation through 9-11, but now he\'ll be remembered as the guy who screwed everything up. IMO (I\'m not a Bush basher, I actually voted for him twice, I just regret the second vote.)
I wasn't around when tricky &%$! was in office but he did away with the gold standard and was behind the Watergate scandal. Bush is scraping on the heels of Nixon and will likely pass him as history is written.
