Violating State Rights. Federal Abuse

Rivalry Side B | Politics | News

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton has struck down some of the elements of Arizona’s SB1070 after being sued by the Federal Government as well as other parties. Is the Federal Government out of line? Violating state rights or justified?

I forgot to comment on the actual rivalry! It is a clear example of Federal abuse of power over states rights. It is becoming an commonplace thing with this administration. I am going to be pushing my state reps to fight hard for my states rights or pack up and get out. I don't want any more excuses.

Lynx55, I don't know about your relatives but mine were proud people who came here ready to work and pay their own way from day one. They never asked anyone for a hand out and never took a hand out from anyone. That is the difference from original immigration and the immigration we have today. The majority of immigrants today come here with their hands out and have a vast knowledge of how our system works before they even arrive. This is not limited to Mexicans but they certainly do abuse the system more than any other group of people. I worked in the medical field in California and the abuse was sickening. Not only did illegals receive free care from day one of arrival, they received better care than American citizens who did not have the same help or knowledge with working the system. They were seen faster in ER's because of their need for interpreters (paid for at great expense by the taxpayers) and because they usually arrived in huge groups which clogged the waiting areas. They also received preferential treatment in the court system because they needed court appointed attorneys and interpreters, also paid for by tax dollars. Lovely... They should not be called immigrants. They should be called leaches. Immigrants are people who go to a new country to make a new life for themselves through hard work and independence. That should include supporting themselves, paying taxes, abiding by our laws, speaking English, and being a contributing member of society. That is an immigrant.

If they weren't "illegal" many if not MOST would already be happy to do those things. We make them what they are, and then penalize them for it.

I have to disagree, there are legal means to get here legally and from what I understand it's a lot easier to get into the US legally than many other nations. The bottom line is that the law was broken from day one.

However, many if not most of us, come from a background of illegal immigration. From the Irish & Polish and on up. And pray tell, what IS the "good reason" ? Overpopulation of the US has already been proven to be a misnomer.

How about to ensure everyone is paying their share of taxes before they bleed the social systems dry, to check criminal backgrounds before they gain access to the country, to ensure they aren't smuggling illegal items or people across the border, to reduce the cost of translators throughout government agencies by mandating English as the language of the country,... I could go on and on.

And to say many of us came from illegal backgrounds is a bit of a farce. Most of our ancestors immigrated here before there were strict immigration laws.

Big difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration. The one responsibility the federal government is actually documented to have and they can't even handle that. If we didn't have laws on immigration there wouldn't be an issue but we do and for very good reason.

Enforcing immigration law is a federal law, and it seems to me Arizona is the only state gutsy enough to enforce it! Illegal immigrants cost this country over $2,000,000,000 every year in health aid, lack of paid taxes and hiring teachers who are bi-lingual, just to name a few. It should be a no-brainer, but since when has our government done the right thing for the citizens of this once-great country of ours?
