I guess the key phrase here is "when it really comes down to it"

When things really come down to it, a friend is sometimes not so convenient to help or voice up. Perhaps that made me choosing family. After all when sensitive matters kick in like money and sickness (long term), it has to bee family..

My family, which in this case I mean my husband and kids have always been there for me no matter what. My extended family has been another story. Some of them have done terrible things to me and my kids and I wouldn't trust them with a mangy dog. That being said, I have a friend from junior high who I am closer to than my real sister. No matter what happens she and her husband always have our backs. I don't know what I would do without her.

I think this all really depends on the person's situation. You could have better friends than family or the other way around.

I have never had a long-term friend that I could trust with everything, so I had to go with family. Yes, most of my family will point out the faults and/or get angry/upset first...then once they get used to whatever issue it is they are very helpful and informative...and would stick by me no matter what...and Lord knows I've tested that to the max in my day. If I could find a friend that wasn't judgmental, ends up turning on me, or just befriends me because I have something they want...I might feel differently, but up til now...I've had no such luck.

Trust me, I've tested my family as well. Especially my parents.

In all honesty my best friend and the only one I trust with everything is my wife. In addition to that my family has and always will be there for me. I have a couple of really good friends but family will always be there.

In my experience with the exception of my husband, children, 1 aunt, and my grandmothers - I can rely on my good friends more. My friends are there for me through thick or thin. They will be there if I need to call them just to cry on someone shoulder. My family would tell me everything I am doing wrong if I tried to call them just to talk. I think my friends love me for me and my family loves me because they are stuck with me.

I am at a toss up here. I tend to side with my family even though all my 7 brothers and sisters are 'mostly' in their own worlds, and I have friends that would go to the front line for(and with) me.

Family will always be there. I have a "friend" that is only there when they need something. They are either having problems or they have a question about something and this is the only time I hear from them.
