"Disagreeing has never been so much fun!"
Southern cooking sweetheart Paula Deen has come under fire from her fellow chefs and the media after announcing that she not only has type 2 diabetes but she has agreed to a paid campaign for a diabetes medication. Is this fair criticism?

I think its wrong for her to cook the horrible fattening foods she cooks while having diabetes however this is a free country and she didnt force anyone to cook and eat her food just like mcdonalds doesnt make you go through the drive thru.

I have to say if it wasn't for the medication campaign I would fully support Paula but the timing of the announcement coinciding with the medication doesn't strike me what I would call a good decision. However, I can't be too hard on her as this is still a free country and she can certainly do as she pleases. We can't forget about personal choices and while Paula whips up some rather unhealthy dishes it's up to each individual recreating her recipes to do so in moderation.

Just wanted to say that I agree whole-heartedly with you. While it is unfortunate the timing of the diabetes campaign it doesn't take away from the fact that it is a disease nonetheless. Nobody wants to have diabetes. True that the foods she prepares should be eaten in moderation, but we are after all just human. I can't say she didn't deserve some criticism, but some have been particularly scathing in their critiques. It's just unfortunate.
