I think if they make it through high school with decent grades (trying their best, despite the grade), and are heading to college, I think the parents should buy the car as a reward. However, if they drop out, etc, or "like totally need a car now" they should buy it themselves!
I think kids should buy their own cars or at least help pay for the car and the insurance. They can't appreciate anything that doesn't cost them something. One of the spoiled brats cutie refers to woke us up one night by crashing into our car and sending it crashing into our neighbors two cars. She had already totaled another car just before that and her daddy had replaced that car with another one which she was driving (drunk) that night. It was a miracle that no one was killed that night. Make your kids earn what they get.
This is one of those things that some parents just don't get. People and especially Teenage people are far less likely to respect something they didn't have to earn. By supplying them with a piece of freedom like a motor vehicle without making them earn it, you are asking for trouble. It may start with a wrecked car but will end up shaping your kids expectations(outlook on life) for years to come.
This is very serious! This could very well be the difference between your child becoming a liberal or conservative. For the sake of the country, MAKE THEM EARN IT!
I agree but somewhat have to disagree. My parents bought my first car and although I may not have appreciated it as much when I was younger, I was never a spoiled brat and to this day work my tail off and earn everything I have. I bought my first house when I was 21 and my parents didn't help me with any of it. I think it depends on what kind of person you are. Thankfully I have my parents work ethic but I have seen spoiled brats and I am thankful I didn't end up that way.
