Wow! This is such a touchy subject. I agree with the commenters who say that if the person infected purposefully infects others, then by all means, throw the book at him/her. But to have to register just because you've been diagnosed with AIDS, I don't think it would be fair. I mean what if you got it due to a blood transfusion? Good topic, but very touchy!

Of course, someone with AIDS should not be required to register as a sex offender. A sex offender register is for those who have been a sex offender. Plain and simple. Having AIDS means you probably had unprotected sex with an AIDS carrier, got AIDS from a blood transfusion or got AIDS from working with an accident victim while not protecting oneself. These days, all doctors and nurses and EMTs and etc. know that they may be at risk and should take the proper precautions to protect themselves from AIDS and other diseases.

If it is proven that a person with AIDS is purposefully sleeping with others and infecting others on purpose, then he/she should be sentenced by the full extent of the law because of murder or attempted murder.

Most people living with AIDS are NOT sex offenders just as most gays are not sex offenders who prey on little kids or straight men. Labels and stereotypes usually bring more problems than they correct. You can't lump all men as good and nice. You can't lump all alcoholic drinkers as persons who will drive under the influence. You can't lump all women together as good mothers. People are who they are and labels and stereotyps don't change that.

Yeah. Responsibility is a huge factor but most people don't think before they do. I think maybe they should have to register. Not quite sure how I feel about this one.

Responsibility plays a huge factor in this. I get tested regularly for H.I.V. If I was to ever get it I would tell the person I was with before the sexual act. We wouldn't have this problem either if people weren't going around screwing for fun. Can I say that on here?

I don't think it's a punishment to register highly contagious deadly diseases, and the comparison to sex-offender is wrong. It's more like the person who boarded the airplane without telling them he was sick with contagious tuberculosis and putting the life of everyone on the plane in danger for their life and was arrested. This isn't a cold, it's a blood-borne pathogen disease - once you have it, you basically wait to die. You can prolong life now with certain drugs, but you can never eliminate the disease from your system like cancer. There are already registries for certain diseases like tuberculosis, and also registries of people who take certain medications, so why not register Aids carriers for the protection of all citizens?

Simply because it is a major intrusion of privacy. It's bad enough to have a death sentence; should they have to be labeled as outcasts as well?
Does a disease have the power to steal a persons rights? I don't think so.

There's no outcast label.
What rights are stolen specifically?
Shouldn't the "greater good" be paramount here, as in most laws that remove certain individuals' rights?
What about gun-owners' rights?
What about cell phone users in cars' rights?
What about smokers' rights?
What about the right of restaurant owners to use the type of oils(such as trans-fat) in their cooking that they choose?
What about the ability to stop a crime before it's committed if you have foreknowledge? I know that's not a right but I think it should be.
What about the good samaritan who helps the bloody beat up aids carrier with no knowledge that he is bringing home a dangerous disease to his family?
I just see it as a "greater good" issue, not a usurpment of rights issue... and again... what specific rights?

I was referring to privacy rights. If forced to register the disease would in reality be stealing the privacy rights of the individual.

As proponents of guns would say, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people." Of course that doesn't make complete sense because diseases do kill people but wouldn't be able to do so unless those who already have it irresponsibly and possibly maliciously pass it on.

So in other words it is up to each person to do the moral thing and inform sexual partners of their disease. Getting a disease shouldn't rob a person of their rights. It's bad enough they have the disease, we shouldn't put them in town square and throw rocks at them.

true, but sex is not the only way to transmit the disease. maybe they should just wear a bracelet like people with food allergies

nobody would ever check the list any way, a lot of people have sex offenders living nearby and r clueless. to be safe people shouldn't be bangen random people anyway.you should know who your sleeping with before you sleep with them. but i could see both sides on this one.

This is true. People are careless. You can go online and see what sex offenders are living near you. You will be surprised how many are near you. It's scary. It gives there name, address, and what crime they committed.

Wow this is a touchy one. I think if they were to be a threat to children or have previously gotten into trouble then they should have to register. I'm sure not everyone that has aids is a bad person. Look at the people in Africa.

On average, most people with AIDS shouldn't have to register, however, there is a lot of cruel people in this world. Many many people contract AIDS then go on an "intimate" binge, purposely spreading the disease, and basically committing murder! Therefore, for other's safety, I do think that those with HIV/AIDS should have to register.

Ok I know this is going to be a touchy one but I saw it on another social network and wanted to get your thoughts.
